WISER Provides 6th Class Students With Much Needed Relationships & Sexuality Education

The West of Ireland Sexuality Education Resource (WISER), have produced online Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) for 6th class students who have missed out this year. The Galway City based organisation funded by the HSE, provides RSE to both primary and secondary schools in Counties Galway, Mayo and Roscommon.

Speaking about their new online 6th Class RSE resource, Lorraine O’Connell WISER Coordinator said:

“We contacted a number of primary schools we work with and proposed the idea of RSE tutorials online and received very positive feedback. The WISER team put great effort into researching age-appropriate, relevant material that would engage 6th class students on various topics. The majority of the tutorials are presented through short, fun animated video-clips”

The topics include: Puberty, Relationships, Sexuality, Consent, Body Image, Reproduction, Anatomy, Safety Online, Sexting, Pornography and Mental Health & Well-Being and a very useful Parents Section.

Parents and 6th class can access this information by visiting our website www.bewiser.ie and under Online RSE you will see 6th Class Tutorials.

Lorraine emphasised: “It’s very important that parents have viewed the content prior to their child/young person, they also need to be conscious of other content not endorsed by WISER, that could be recommended through YouTube and may not be suitable for their child.

We hope these videos will ensure that 6th class students will have relevant, trustworthy and accurate information and support on Relationships and Sexuality Education”

Lorraine O’Connell, WISER Coordinator.
